Las Iguanas: the review
I went to Las Iguanas in Deansgate for a meal with my friends E and L - here's the review of how it was.
Starter - Grande Nachos (7/10)
We decided to get the big sharing nachos platter, which was a big portion to be fair. The nachos were not too crunchy and not too soft, garnished with jalapenos, sour cream, and salsa. Overall, a lovely dish to share with E and L, who also enjoyed it. The sharing dish was £11.75, more than the single portion of £7.50.
Main - Chicken Enchilada (7/10)
Funnily enough, we all ended up with the exact same dish! The enchilada came with peppers, black bean sauce, rice, chicken, and was topped with cheese. I checked before ordering my dish and confirmed with the servers that all chicken at Las Iguanas is halal at every branch.
For me, the food was very nice, I especially like the combination of different elements in one mouthful, from the colourful peppers to the chicken and bean sauce. I rated the enchilada a 7/10 after concurring with E and L, who enjoyed the dish too. I would say it could have been done with more spice or flavour, and that is from someone who is not much into spicy foods. Overall, it was a great dish and we all finished the entire portion! The enchilada was priced at £15.50.
Drinks - Mocktails and Cocktails (8/10)
As the price of everything is high, I expected this to be a lot, but thankfully, Las Iguanas still has their 2-for-1 offer on all cocktails AND mocktails! This is incredible as it usually only applies to cocktails, but I am glad to report that it applies to non-alcoholic drinks too, as it should do to give people options. The only 'downside' is that the drink ordered has to be the same in order to be 2-for-1.
Berry Fizz
(funkin raspberry, bottlegreen elderflower, soda)
I got two Berry Fizzes as part of the offer. The Berry Fizz contained was delicious, it was definitely tangy and had a sharp taste, which was what I was looking for. I liked the combination of the raspberry and elderflower, and the colour was bright and appealing. For £5.75, I was pleasantly surprised at getting two mocktails where most places charge £5-£7 as the going rate for one drink in the city centre.
Pina Colada
(Malibu, coconut cream, pineapple)
E and L decided to get Pina Coladas. The review:
"It wasn't as rich and creamy as other drinks I have had, but given the price you're paying for two drinks... it was tasty and definitely value for money in this climate". The price was £12.50 for two drinks, which works out very cost-effective and left E and L very happy!
Long Island Iced Tea
(Vodka, Havana Club Especial Rum, Beefeater Gin, Olmeca Blanco Tequila, triple sec, lemon, Coke Zero)
Then the second round for them was the Long Island Iced Tea.
"It was zesty and refreshing, something I hadn't tried before but would definitely get again!" The combination here is a popular one in the UK and again, the price is a steal, very attractive for those coming in for drinks.
The verdict - 7/10
Overall, the food tasted lovely and was presented well. The staff was very friendly and the service was quick. There was a nice atmosphere with music reflecting Las Iguanas' Latin America roots, upbeat and lively for a Friday night. There were some groups present for birthdays, and I can see it being popular for the drinks offer. Whilst there were a good number of people, there were also empty tables, and I think that if the prices were slightly cheaper, it would be a perfect spot for people looking to eat out in Deansgate. I would definitely go back again!
